To The Best CF Community Ever Assembled,
When Brad and I opened the doors to YSCF back in 2011 we were one of the first ten CrossFit gyms in Denver. Fast forward to 2017 and there are more than 100. The growth of CrossFit has exceeded our wildest expectations. There’s never a day that goes by that Brad and I consider the operation of YSCF as being “work.” It has always been a pleasure and something we take pride in. Over the 6 years of operation we have been through many ups and downs, but we always somehow came out on top. I still look back and wonder how the hell this place made it. Brad and I had nothing more than $50,000 and the love of CrossFit to help us succeed. What I realized is that it was never Brad and I that did this. We could never have done this alone. It’s just not possible. The success of YSCF was driven by our community. A community that has given so much more to me than I ever thought possible.
Earlier this year our plan was to move to a new facility, re-brand, and provide more resources and classes for our community and prospective members. Unfortunately, it didn’t play out as expected and we lost a couple very important pieces of that puzzle. Brad and I have looked high and low for a space that YSCF could occupy. After looking for a number of months we came to a realization. As much as we want to continue YSCF and keep our community alive, it’s just not possible at this time. After coming to this realization there was only one option available…to close our doors.
I have made life-long friends and some that I consider family. They have become part of my family’s support system. I could never repay what this community has given me, but my intent is to always provide the community with my love and support as a way to give back. I truly hope that I have given back as much as you all have given to me. Throughout my twenties and thirties, I’ve started multiple businesses. Some have failed and some have succeeded, but none of them gave as much back to me personally as YSCF. The memories will last me a lifetime.
I plan on keeping in close contact with this community. I plan on having more poker nights, potlucks, holiday parties, and some community WOD’s. There’s always a chance that some time down the line YSCF will rise again, but today is not that day.
Brad and I will be closing doors on January 31, 2018. We will run classes through that date. Nothing will change. Also, we will be selling the equipment in the gym and will have a price list online for those interested in purchasing equipment. Brad and I will also be working on options for our members that would provide them substantial discounts to surrounding gyms that fit best with our community. I will let everyone know what those discounts are as I hear back.
One of the most brilliant thinkers in history, Leonardo DaVinci, said something that I believe in and believe each one of you has inside. “It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them, they went out and happened to things.” All of you have taken it upon yourselves to accomplish your fitness goals. Not only have you pushed yourselves to succeed in those goals, but you did so by your own decision and drive. Keep that drive alive and go out there and happen to things!
Thank you all for being such wonderfully supportive people. I love you all very much and wish everyone the best in their fitness and professional journeys.
Humbly Your Friend, Family, and Coach,
