ANNOUNCING YORK STREET CROSSFIT’S SPORTS TEAM
While we preach challenging, varied, functional fitness we don’t always have the opportunity to facilitate these methodologies outside of class. This is one reason the gym is putting together a competitive, intramural sports team. This will be a great way to put your Crossfit super powers to work OUTSIDE OF THE GYM and see what a difference they can make in having fun while being active and social.
Each season the members of the team will choose a sport to play (basketball, soccer, dodgeball, softball etc.). While people can join or leave season to season, the idea is to have the members play sports they may not be so comfortable with; just like we do with the movements inherent in our WODs. Additionally, think of this as a fun way to incorporate athletic training into your weekly routine in a fun, social atmosphere.
Some high-level details: The first sport we will be playing is indoor Flag Football starting mid January. The schedules of games will vary season to season and will be dictated by the sports leagues into to which we will enter (but all games seem to be on weekday evenings or Sundays); payments to these leagues will be made to York Street Crossfit directly to simplify things. Optional team get-togethers will occur from time to time for casual practices, meals etc. Carpooling from the gym will be facilitated with food after likely. People who are interested in playing but whose schedules do not allow regular participation can join as alternates. Fans, TV analysts, cheerleaders, hip-hop dance crew, booster club members and someone to slice oranges for half time are also welcome.
